Until 1997, Tennessee had no electrical licensing laws (except Metropolitan counties)(Please note St of Tennessee uses PSI, this company is geared so that a class can be taken locally to pass the test).
We been licensed VIA “Master Electrician” in the Metropolitan county of Davidson since 1990. This was a much more difficult license to obtain. It was the original License “Master Electrician” Please note and look here Master electrician exams use (Thompsom prometric, the original testing agency for the Davidson County Master Electrician exam and the most difficult) to obtain before having the authority to contract electrical work in Davidson County. This License number (#487) reflects being the 487th Company to “qualify to sit” for the exam since 1952. Also, we have an unlimited “Master Electrician license” in the State of Alabama . Our leading electricians have been fully trained and certified through a Federally Approved 5year- apprenticeship program in the Industrial Electrical/Electronic Construction Industry. For Solar PV, we are professional trained by a NAPCEP accredited institute. Hocking College Energy Institute in Solar PV design and installation industry. If you need a professionally educated electrical contractor, call and we can make arrangements to get any electrical/solar system to fit your needs.
FYI about electrical licensing law:
- Master Electrician’s Qualifications – Are what it takes to be disciplined enough to professionally install NEC certified electrical installations.
- Note: Tennessee has no Journeyman License Laws. Journeyman license laws are prevalent in most all states except Tennessee. To qualify for the exam, you need four years of electrical work experience. This by nature is a common sense Law to have in place.
- Here in Tennessee, an LLE can come into you home or business when they have less proven experience than a licensed Journeyman would be requires to have, nevertheless, here in Tennessee, we have to deal with it for now. Therefore, you will never know the quality of help contractor’s have employed and brought into your home or business. So doing some background checking on your contractors personnel and license here in Tennessee would payoff. (Preferred license-Master Electrician)
-
- Read carefully: LLE’s (Limited License Electricians) –
- Limited License holders are not contractors, therefore, not required to pass the Business and Law Management exam, only a 2-hr trade exam is required to obtain this license.
- There is no minimum experience requirement.
- There are no state mandated minimum financial requirements for this license.
Under the current laws this license can be given to most anyone , no background checks, no classroom education.
Most all metro areas have made it illegal for any LLE to conduct any electrical work in their areas. Some counties include Davidson, Williamson, Rutherford, Shelby, Knox, Chattanooga and others are becoming aware of the legal problems arising by allowing LLE’s to work in their cities. Believe it or not, these guys are allowed to do commercial up to $25,000.00 and have no proven experience. These guys are doing nothing more than experimenting in your home or business. Because they certainly do not have proven experience.

- Insurance license laws do not dictate who they sell insurance too. it can be anyone, so be careful. Any person saying they are a contractor can purchase here in Tennessee. If you handed a copy of insurance, it does not mean they are licensed. Please check the Board of Licensing.

- Attends an federally qualified apprenticeship school – 5hr classes, 2-3 days a week for 4-5 yrs straight, with a mandatory minimum of 2000hrs at work each year during your apprenticeship.
- After completion of both the apprenticeship, proving you have an excellent work ethic, and working under a federal registered Journeyman side by side, everyday 8000-10000 hours, you graduate and register in the state and federal offices of registered Journeymen.
- After you have passed and completely satisfied every teacher and every foreman you have worked under you may have a chance to manage electrical projects. Now, to be involved at this level you must have very accurate paperwork skills, along with good management skill-sets.
